Video information
The Simpsons is FOX's most successful television series to date. The show initially originated as a spin-off of The Tracey Ullman Show, serving as a one-minute filler segment. The executive producers of The Tracey Ullman Show, James L. Brooks and Sam Simon, recognized the potential of these characters for a half-hour television series and immediately began production on what would become the longest-running animated series in prime time television history. The frequent appearances of The Simpsons in commercials, such as those for Butterfinger Candy Bars, have contributed to their widespread recognition. The Simpsons began as a series of animated shorts on the FOX comedy sketch show, The Tracey Ullman Show. The animation primarily depicted the lives of the Simpson family in Springfield. The patriarch of the family, Homer, is not a traditional "stay-at-home dad." As a parent, he strives to lead his unruly family, but often finds himself being the one led. Despite the challenges, the Simpson family lives happily together. The family includes the loving, blue-haired matriarch Marge, the troublemaker son Bart, the talented and unexpected daughter Lisa, and the baby Maggie. The family remains ageless, but the background of Springfield evolves with the times. The residents of Springfield are typically voiced by actors such as Hank Azaria (including Moe, the bartender) and Harry Shearer (Homer's boss Mr. Burns, and neighbor Ned Flanders). Notable guest voice actors include Michael Jackson (as a mentally unstable character who believes he is Michael Jackson), Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hope, William H. Macy, Kathleen Turner, Johnny Carson, Nsync, Paul McCartney, and even the Rolling Stones.
