A special homicide case that remained unsolved in 1997 resurfaces 13 years later. Detective Wei Zhengrong (played by Chen Jianbin), who was never able to track down the culprit, was deeply affected and left the frontline. Meanwhile, the once inexperienced rookie detective Lu Xingzhi (played by Chen Xiao) has grown into a meticulous and capable criminal investigator. The numerous coincidences in the case bring the mentor and apprentice together again, as they work together to hunt down the true culprit. The drama is adapted from Lou Xiaopeng's novel "Dark Night's Light."
