The CBS comedy *Kevin Can Wait* was renewed for a second season in June, but it experienced a major change in its cast. Erinn Hayes, who played Donna, the wife of the show's protagonist Kevin (played by Kevin James), announced that she would be leaving the cast and not returning for the second season. CBS announced that Donna would die in the show, and the second season would begin with a time jump. The show's cast promoted Leah Remini, who had previously worked with Kevin James on *The King of Queens* and made her debut in the first season, to a regular role and the show's co-lead for the second season.
