NBC announced after the new season showcase that it had ordered a new series, *Crossbones*, created by Neil Cross, the creator of the British series *Luther*. This action-adventure series will also explore a moral question without an easy answer: in an era without law and order, were the pillaging pirates the villains, or were the cold-blooded British monarchy? NBC has reportedly ordered 10 episodes of the show, with production set to begin in the fall and airing in 2013. In 1715, the Atlantic, New Providence Island, Bahamas. Ironically, in this pirate-infested place, the first formal "democratic government" on the American continent was born. The ruthless pirate king Edward Teach, nicknamed "Blackbeard," ruled here. He established a rogue nation made up of thieves, bandits, and rogue sailors—half of it was a lowly tavern, and the other half was a haven for privateers. The emergence of the "Pirate Kingdom" shocked the world, as global maritime trade faced unprecedented threats. To end this terrifying society and ultimately seize control, the British monarchy sent a highly trained secret assassin, Tom Lowe, to the island to assassinate "Blackbeard." This was a difficult mission—Blackbeard, a brilliant and cunning adversary, would not go down without a fight. However, as Lowe got closer to his target, he began to notice something odd. Eventually, Lowe even admired Blackbeard's political ideals. Blackbeard was an enlightened and eager learner, but he was willing to use any means to acquire "knowledge." For Blackbeard, Lowe was not the only threat to his rule—he had many competitors, each more evil than the last. Worse still, he had a major weakness: he deeply loved a woman.
