Video information
The story is set during the Edo period. To escape unpleasant memories, the beautiful and nimble girl Akin (played by Ruru Aoi) comes to her uncle, Ibei (played by Shiro Sano), to help run his bag shop, Sanjo-ya. She works diligently and selflessly, winning the hearts of everyone at Sanjo-ya. By chance, Akin replaces her uncle to receive a guest who was scheduled to visit. The guest appears anxious and hesitant to speak. Confident in her ability to help others with their troubles, Akin takes on the role of a listener. However, the guest tells a haunting and mysterious story about "the flower of the dead," the Manjushage. From this point on, over the following days, Akin hears and records one supernatural and eerie story after another (haunted houses, unnatural love affairs, magical mirrors, and houses filled with strange sounds), and she unknowingly becomes entangled in them... This film is adapted from the original work by Miyuki Miyabe.
