One night, the East University Hospital urgently admitted a mysterious man with a head injury. Dr. Minami Jin (played by Takao Oze), the on-duty neurosurgeon, successfully performed the surgery. However, after waking up from the operation, the man inexplicably escaped. While chasing him, Jin fell down the stairs and lost consciousness. When he woke up again, he found himself in a forest where samurai were fighting. Thinking he was in a period drama, Jin narrowly avoided danger, but fortunately, he was saved by the young samurai Tangeru Kyotarou (played by Keisuke Koide). Jin followed the injured Kyotarou back to the Tangeru family and performed surgery for him under extremely primitive conditions. Witnessing the entire surgical process, Kyotarou's sister Tangeru Sakura (played by Haruka Ayase) was deeply moved and developed a strong interest in Jin. The next morning, Jin learned from Sakura the shocking truth: he had somehow traveled to the Edo period during the Bakumatsu era! From then on, a vast historical tapestry gradually unfolded. The story revolves around Jin's rise and fall at the Medical Institute and the numerous medical incidents after he established his own practice. Not only do characters and organizations such as Sakamoto Ryoma, Katsu Kaishu, Otsuki Hanan, and the Shinsengumi appear, but Jin also meets a beautiful courtesan named Nozomi (played by Miyuki Nakatani), who bears an uncanny resemblance to his fiancée in the modern world. Jin, deeply moved by the wonders of fate, tries to introduce modern medical technology to Edo while also working to alter the predetermined destinies of the people caught in the historical currents. This drama is adapted from the renowned manga work of the same name by Japanese manga artist Norika Murakami, and the TV series finale was broadcast in 2011.
