Yōhei Ueshima (played by Jirō Sato) has spent 11 years living as a recluse since the age of 38. Three years ago, he finally managed to leave his room, becoming what could be called a "recluse survivor." After breaking free from his reclusive lifestyle, he opened a yakitori restaurant with the help of the local community. However, he struggled to have normal conversations with customers, and his reintegration into society was still in progress. One day, Yōhei is asked to become a part-time teacher at a municipal middle school. Principal Tetsuzō Sakaki (played by Katsunori Takahashi) had decided to assign him the task of supporting truant students, leveraging his experience as a recluse. This was a groundbreaking idea, especially as the school's social worker, Aiko Iwasaki (played by Hanako Suzuki), and young teacher, Shōko Fukano (played by Yui Sakuma), were struggling to manage the classroom for truant students. Despite feeling the task was too heavy and initially refusing, Yōhei found himself connecting emotionally with a truant student, Nana (played by Riona Suzuki), whom he saw as a reflection of his deceased daughter. With encouragement from his "recluse friend" Yōda (played by Reo Tamaki), his supporter from his recluse days, Chōri Nagamine (played by Kazumitsu Hanai), and his mother, Mizuko (played by Kayoko Shiraishi), Yōhei finally resolves to take on the role of teacher.
