During the Republic of China era, the common people were ignorant and superstitious, believing in strange and evil doctrines. Li Mudun was the best carpenter in Wucheng, and he was well-versed in the ancient text "Lu Ban Secret Techniques." It was said that this book consisted of two volumes: the upper volume focused on carpentry techniques, while the lower volume contained mysterious and sinister occult practices. A case of a missing bride shocked Wucheng, with a suspicious cause of death, leading to much speculation among the people, who suspected that Li Mudun had used dark magic to commit the crime. To clear his name, Li Mudun, along with detective Yang Zong and forensic expert Su Qingyun, thoroughly investigated the case, discovering that the murderer had used mechanical tricks to create an illusion. The three worked seamlessly together and subsequently solved other cases, such as the "Birth Pole Case," the "Puppet Killing Case," and the "Cart Driver Case," among others. These cases were all linked to Li Mudun's apprentice, Wu Xian. When the military governor was killed and a series of linked murders occurred in Wucheng, causing a great uproar, Li Mudun and his team were tasked with solving the cases. They engaged in a battle of wits and courage with Wu Xian, ultimately revealing the truth. They demonstrated that justice will ultimately triumph over ignorance and darkness, upholding and promoting the spirit of seeking truth, being pragmatic, and dispelling superstition, which are the core values of traditional Chinese culture.
