At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, during a time of chaos, the Liuli Factory in old Beijing was still thriving. Tong Fengquan (played by Zhang Guoli), the owner of Fan Gu Tang, was a seasoned antique dealer skilled in restoring and repairing old antiques. However, the trade was fraught with deception, fraud, and traps, and even someone as shrewd as Tong Fengquan could not escape the cycle of being manipulated and backstabbed. Due to a piece of Ru ware tripod mirror box, two antique shops went bankrupt, and there was even a loss of life, leaving Tong penniless. This drastic change in fate brought Tong into contact with others: Manchu nobleman Fan Wuye (played by Zhang Tielin), who relied on his past experience to engage in the antique trade, saw Tong's skills in restoring antiques and even offered to marry his sister, Mo He (played by Miao Pu), to him in order to recruit him as a partner; Ru Erlao (played by Deng Jie), who was expelled from her old master's house after his death, survived by selling the antiques she had brought with her, gradually growing closer to Tong; and because of a fake painting, Tong developed a grudge with Lan Yigu, the owner of Tianhe Ju (played by Wang Gang). In this chaotic world reborn, small people each play out their own tragicomic life dramas...
