Fang Cheng is the butler hired by the renowned physician Gu Feng of Qingyuan Hall. Gu Feng's son drowned in an accident, and Gu's mother-in-law blamed Fang Cheng for the tragedy, which greatly upset him. In retaliation against the Gu family, Fang Cheng swapped his daughter, Qiangwei, born to him and his mistress He Xiu, with the Gu family's daughter, Ren Dong. As a result, the illegitimate daughter Qiangwei became the Gu family's beloved child, living a life of comfort and abundance, while Ren Dong was raised by He Xiu in extreme poverty. Years passed, and both Ren Dong and Qiangwei grew into beautiful young women. By chance, Ren Dong returned to Qingyuan Hall as an apprentice, where she met a man named Han Chong. Qiangwei had always admired Zhengding, but Zhengding gradually became attracted to Ren Dong's intelligence and bravery, making Qiangwei deeply resentful of Ren Dong.
