James Keene (played by Taron Egerton) was born in Chicago, the son of a police officer. He was once an outstanding football player, heading towards a professional career. However, his mistake led to a 10-year prison sentence with no possibility of parole. The prosecutor gave him a chance to redeem himself, but the risk was high. A man named Larry Hall (played by Paul Walter Hauser) had kidnapped and murdered a 15-year-old girl, who was just one of the 19 women he had previously killed. Due to insufficient evidence, Hall might be released, and Keene's task was to get Hall to confess to his murders while in prison.
