The story takes place during the early years of the Republic of China. The Pan family has been running the Yongtailong Silk Factory for generations, with a strong foundation and a large business in the local area. Although Pan Jiexian (played by Ma Changqing) is the eldest son, he is unable to take on the family business due to his lack of ability and weak personality. On the other hand, his sister, Pan Qia'er (played by Kang Hua), is a capable and strong-willed woman who shoulders the heavy responsibilities and manages everything with great efficiency. The third son, Pan Jiayang (played by Ma Junwei), is deeply loved by his father but is obsessed with studying medicine and has already left home. Xian Biyun (played by Shao Meiqi) is a female worker under Pan Qia'er's command and shares a hidden relationship with Pan Jiexian. However, in the end, the weak Pan Jiexian chooses to obey his parents' wishes and marries the rich and beautiful Yang Yantao (played by Ye Cuicui). One day, the long-absent Pan Jiayang suddenly returns, setting in motion the gears of fate for the Pan family. While everyone is celebrating Pan Jiayang's return, what awaits them is the cold body of Pan Qia'er.
