Ethan (played by Tom Cruise) was once a secret agent working for a special department. After a beautiful woman named Julia (played by Michelle Monaghan) appeared in his life, Ethan decided to retire and settle down. Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long. Before long, Ethan received news that his apprentice, Lindsay (played by Keri Russell), had been kidnapped by his archenemy, Daviden (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman). Daviden is cold and ruthless, and Lindsay's capture is fraught with danger. To rescue Lindsay, Ethan reverts to his old ways, assembling a team of skilled agents to launch an attack on the target. What Ethan didn't expect is that Daviden's true target isn't Lindsay, but Julia. When his wife falls into enemy hands, what kind of counterattack will Ethan launch?
