Based on the ancient legend of the Tears of the Mermaid, this film blends elements of fantasy and martial arts to tell a story about how desire leads to original sin and how grudges and vengeance intertwine. The son of the master of the Kunlun Sect, Jiang Tianyang, is determined to seize the position of master and for this purpose, he practices the evil art of Yuanxu Great Law. He joins forces with the mermaid Luo Xi to return to the Kunlun Sect to seek revenge, only to discover that right and wrong have been inverted, and good and evil have been reversed. He also becomes possessed by the evil art due to his cultivation, and is controlled by the antagonists. In order to save his lover, Luo Xi sacrifices herself and uses the last mermaid tear to neutralize Jiang Tianyang's evil art. The film employs multiple reversals akin to the "Rashomon" narrative, expressing the idea of the opposition and unity between right and wrong, good and evil. It shows that extreme and obsessive emotions can lead to tragedy. The protagonist, from the beginning driven by the desire for power and revenge, comes to understand that greed leads to original sin and eventually grows into a righteous knight, reflecting the hero's journey of inner growth. The female lead, in a critical moment, puts aside her hatred, sacrifices herself to help the male lead save the crisis, and in the tragedy, celebrates the main theme of love, characterized by tolerance, selflessness, and dedication.
