Irish fisherman Siobhan (played by Colin Farrell) rescues a mysterious and beautiful woman named Odin (played by Alicja Bachleda) from the sea. Siobhan takes Odin, who is reluctant to see people, to his mother's seaside cottage, where he unexpectedly discovers that Odin has brought good fortune to his fishing boat. Siobhan's daughter, Anne (played by Alison Barry), suffers from kidney failure and lives with her mother, Maura (played by Dervla Kirwan), and her boyfriend. Anne forms a strong friendship with Odin and believes that Odin is a selkie from Scottish mythology, a seal woman who came ashore after burying her seal skin, allowing her to live on land for seven years until her seal husband comes to take her back to the deep sea. Siobhan and Odin fall in love, but he remains skeptical about Odin's true identity until a mysterious man with black hair appears, intending to take Odin away... The film was nominated for the Irish Film and Television Association Awards for Best Costume Design, Best Director, Best Film, and Best Screenplay, and won Best Actor (Colin Farrell), Best Supporting Actress (Dervla Kirwan), Best Set Design, and Best Sound.
