Chakra is 14 years old and lives a life of exhaustion. He, his parents, and many of his siblings work together in Cambodia's rice fields. At dinner, they gather around a wooden table in their small wooden house, where father and son often have differing opinions. When a friend tells Chakra about the possibility of earning money in a factory, the boy decides to set out on his own. But on the way, he falls into the hands of human traffickers and is sold into slavery. On the Thai fishing boat where he now works, the captain's rule is both cruel and arbitrary. Violence, torture, and even murder are pressing issues in today's society. Chakra realizes that his only hope is to escape the torment of his captors. Rod Rashkin's first feature film is a harsh and realistic depiction of the plight of forced labor in Cambodia. The Australian director's approach is far from pretty, leaving no one unscathed. His gripping film is a passionate witness to social injustice, as well as a moving and shocking coming-of-age story about a boy tested by humanity.
