Ruth (played by Melanie Lynskey) is a nurse working at a rehabilitation center, but she herself suffers from depression and is undergoing treatment with medication. After a particularly unfortunate day, Ruth returns home exhausted and is shocked to discover that her house has been robbed, with her valuable laptop missing. The immense pressure makes Ruth feel that she is on the verge of a breakdown. The next day, Ruth encounters Tony (played by Elijah Wood), the annoying neighbor who frequently allows his dog to relieve itself in her yard. Subsequently, Ruth's phone detects a signal emitted by the stolen laptop. Ruth reports the theft to the police, but they are unwilling to help her. Out of desperation, Ruth turns to Tony for assistance, and surprisingly, he agrees immediately and quickly takes action.
