Paterson (played by Adam Driver) lives in Paterson, New Jersey, a man with the same name as his hometown. He is a bus driver, living a simple life with his girlfriend Laura (played by Golshifteh Farahani) and a bulldog. Every day, he drives the same bus route, leading a life without much excitement. Paterson enjoys writing poetry and carries a notebook with him, jotting down the verses that come to his mind. He never considers publishing his poems, and his only reader is Laura. In stark contrast to Paterson, Laura is aBorn artist, with quirky ideas constantly popping up in her head. She draws various black-and-white totems on curtains, walls, and even her clothes, learns to play the guitar, and makes delicious cupcakes. Optimistic and lively, she wholeheartedly loves life. Finally, Paterson agrees to Laura's suggestion to have his works printed. Will his life change as a result?
