GLOBAL Company sends employees Steve Butler (Matt Damon) and Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand) to a small town where agriculture is the economic backbone, but the area is rich in natural gas resources. Their mission is to persuade the local residents to collaborate with GLOBAL Company to extract natural gas, which will also boost the local economy. Steve initially believes this will be a straightforward task, but he encounters opposition from Frank, a science teacher at the local high school (Hal Holbrook). Frank proposes that the entire town should vote to decide whether to begin natural gas extraction. The sudden appearance of Dustin Noble (John Krasinski), a young man from the environmental organization "Athena," further fuels local resistance. Dustin uses the destruction of his hometown due to oil and gas extraction as evidence. Additionally, Alice (Rosemarie DeWitt), a woman Steve meets in town and with whom he has developed a connection, seems to have lost trust in him. Can Steve successfully complete the company's mission?
