The film "The Spy Ministry's Man" is based on the political intrigues orchestrated by the ministers of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA), who hold the rank of vice-premier. The original work is a novel of the same name that exposes the inner workings of Korean politics. It reimagines the story centered around the lives of former KCIA directors Kim Jae-gyu and Kim Hyung-wook. In the second half of 1979, a series of events unfolded: the YH Trading Company labor unrest, the disqualification of New Democratic Party leader Kim Young-sam from the National Assembly, and the Busan-Masan incident in October, leading to political instability. Friction arose between KCIA Director Kim Jae-gyu and the hardline director of the Presidential Security Service, leading to growing resentment and distrust from Park Chung-hee. On October 26, 1979, at the KCIA residence in Gongjeong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Park Chung-hee and the director of the Presidential Security Service were assassinated by Kim Jae-gyu with a handgun during a banquet.
