Young girl Xia Lu (Emilia Clarke) from a small town applies for a job as a caregiver. Her patient is a man named Will (Sam Claflin). Will once came from a wealthy family, loved freedom, and enjoyed adventuring around the world. However, a terrible car accident shattered his spine, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down, meaning Will would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Thus, Xia Lu, by chance, begins her life with Will. Will soon discovers that Xia Lu is vastly different from the previous caregivers. With her carefree personality, she never avoids talking about her pain. It's this courage to face the grim reality that brings Will a different feeling. With Xia Lu's company, Will gradually begins to rediscover the feeling of happiness. Xia Lu's strength also prompts Will to seriously contemplate his future.
