Anna Akana ("Ant-Man" and "Thought Criminal") will star in the new film "Go Back to China," directed by Chinese-American director Ting Ting Deng ("Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong"). Akana plays a girl who spends her trust fund partying, but is forced by her father to work for the family's toy business in China. On this journey, she receives the reality check she needs and rebuilds a friendly relationship with her estranged family. Yau-Wah Ng plays her father, Carly Chaikin plays her mother, and Ling Chen plays her half-sister. Deng said, "This is a personal story about my Chinese family experience. I've been wanting to tell this story for a long time. I'm very excited to bring this story to life with these talented Asian actors. Making such a film is a tough battle when there is still a lack of Asian American representation in Hollywood, but I'm very grateful for the opportunity to tell my story." Unbound Feet Productions, Sophia Shek, Frederick Thornton, and others are co-producing the film, which will begin shooting in Hong Kong and Shenzhen in the spring.
