The film tells the story of a new deadly virus that sweeps the globe in just a few days. Beth (Gwyneth Paltrow) dies suddenly after returning home to Minneapolis from a business trip to Hong Kong. Her husband, Thomas (Matt Damon), helps Dr. Erin Mears (Kate Winslet) investigate the truth. What's even more terrifying is that patients with the same symptoms are appearing in large numbers around the world, and the virus is spreading uncontrollably. Conspiracy theory journalist Allen (Jude Law) takes advantage of the situation to spread unfavorable opinions about the government and medical institutions. Dr. Leonora Orantes (Marion Cotillard) is sent to Hong Kong to investigate the cause of the disease, but she is held hostage by a local doctor (Chin Han) as leverage for a vaccine. With the efforts of Dr. Ellis Cheever (Laurence Fishburne) and young doctor Ally Hextall (Jennifer Ehle), a vaccine to treat the virus is finally developed, and the situation is finally brought under control. It is worth noting that Hong Kong stars Coco Lee and Toshin Tsui also put in a strong performance in the film.
