"Zombieland," Ruben Fleischer's directorial debut, was met with rave reviews upon its release, achieving an impressive 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This success firmly established Ruben's position in Hollywood's commercial film industry. Opening weekend, "Zombieland" topped the box office with $25 million, inspired by the earlier film "Shaun of the Dead." The story revolves around a deadly virus that sweeps across America, turning anyone infected into zombies. Only a few survivors remain uninfected, deciding to flee and seek their chance at survival. Two men with contrasting personalities join forces; one has devised a set of rules to deal with zombie attacks, while the other is a violence-obsessed individual determined to eliminate all zombies. Along their escape journey, they meet two clever female survivors, and the four decide to share their experiences to increase their chances of survival. However, the dangers they face during their mission exceed everyone's expectations. Following Hollywood's box office formula, a zombie film like "Zombieland," with a budget of just over $20 million and no big-name stars, is typically relegated to the realm of poor-quality films. Yet, this film's success was remarkably swift, largely due to the director's creative vision. The climax, featuring a thrilling battle with zombies in an amusement park, is highly entertaining. The main cast of "Zombieland," including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, have already confirmed their willingness to return for the sequel, although the script is still in development, with production expected to begin in the first half of 2010. Director Ruben Fleischer recently revealed in an interview that "Zombieland 2" could officially start filming by the end of 2010. "We are in talks with the production company, and we have some ideas that they really like. We will definitely shoot this sequel in 3D. Sony now has its own 3D department, and we will visit Sony's 3D department on Tuesday (March 2). I know everyone from the original cast is excited to return for the sequel. This will be a very exciting and interesting film to make. The script is about to begin writing, and I hope we can officially start filming 'Zombieland 2' by the end of this year or early next year."
