Video information
Philip (played by Kad Merad) has worked at a post office in Provence, southern France, for over a decade. His monotonous life and his unhappy wife, Julie (played by Zoé Félix), weigh heavily on him. In an attempt to please his wife, Philip pretends to be disabled and applies for a promotion to the Golden Coast region in the south. However, things don't go as planned, and he is instead transferred to the small northern town of Bergues to serve as the postmaster. In the eyes of southerners, the town is known for its harsh, cold climate, its coarse and unfriendly people, and their difficult-to-understand Ch'ti accent, making it a place akin to hell. Disheartened, Philip bids farewell to his family and heads to his new post with trepidation. To his surprise, he finds that his new subordinates and the local residents are warm and welcoming, and he quickly befriends the postman, Anthony (played by Dany Boon). Philip gradually falls in love with this simple, wholesome town, but when he tries to persuade Julie to join him in the north, she questions his decision... This film was nominated for the 2008 European Film Award and the 2009 French César Award.
