The combination of Osamu Dazai and Kaoru Kasugano can be summed up in one word: color. Kasugano does not adhere to Dazai's semi-autobiographical novel *Human Lost Qualities* and its superficial exploration of life. Instead, she uses the book as a pretext to directly depict Dazai himself and his relationships with three women. Dazai's wife Michiko, his lover Shizuko who aspired to be a writer, and his last lover Fujie are portrayed by the talented actresses Eihi Miyazawa, Erika Sawajiri, and Fumi Shõji, respectively. Each woman is adorned with a carefully designed thematic color scheme by Kasugano, creating a vivid and colorful visual feast. To combat the sense of futility in life, Dazai indulged in women and alcohol, pursuing the light of death amidst a decadent and dark lifestyle. Through Kasugano's lens, Dazai is both a talented genius and a lowly man. His flaws, however, reflect the fragility and beauty of humanity.
