The story takes place during World War II, when France was occupied by German forces and Nazi ideology was rampant in the region. Maurice (played by Batyste Fleurial) and Joe (played by Dorian Le Clech) are Jewish brothers living in France. Their father runs a barbershop to support his children, and although life is tough, the family is very close-knit. The German forces require every Jew to sew a yellow Star of David onto their outer clothing, and at the same time, society's tolerance for Jews is rapidly declining. The brothers are bullied by their classmates at school because of their heritage. Seeing the situation worsening, their father decides to send Maurice and Joe to the Free Zone for safety, with the plan to join them later in Nice. Thus, the two children embark on their journey to escape.
