After a rebellion in the desert nation of Turkmenistan, the world enters a new era. The war-torn country, already fragmented, is unexpectedly occupied by a private enterprise run by a former U.S. vice president. To monopolize the crucial supply lines after the war, the company'sTop-level hires an unbound mercenary named Brand Hauser (John Cusack). However, Brand, who had already retired years ago under the orders of his boss, Vokan (Ben Kingsley), is unaware that this mission is actually a trap. Several years ago, Brand's wife was killed and his daughter went missing, leaving Brand tormented by his inner demons. Brand's mission this time is to assassinate the oil minister of the Middle East. To successfully complete the mission, Brand disguises himself as a trade show exhibitor and attends the wedding of a popular Middle Eastern celebrity, Unika Bebe (Hilary Duff). Meanwhile, Brand becomes hopelessly infatuated with a sexy left-wing radical journalist named Natalie (Marisa Tomei). However, the truth once again pushes Brand to the brink of collapse.
