A Kun (played by Andy Lau), who has long monopolized the heroin market, views Ah Li (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro), who has followed him for over eight years, as his successor. However, A Kun always acts cautiously and has never revealed the location of his "warehouse" or processing plant, nor has he ever met any other "colleagues." A Kun plans to fully entrust his business to Ah Li, who gradually learns more secrets of the drug market. Over the past eight years, Ah Li has gathered all the information on the drug traffickers while serving as an undercover agent. However, he falls in love with drug user Ah Fen (played by Zhang Jingchu), and Ah Fen's situation makes him even more confused about his own marginal identity. In the process of fighting against each other, Ah Li ultimately earns A Kun's complete trust, and after eight years of tracking, the situation finally comes to an end.
