Ambassador Han (played by Tzi Ma) had previously led the investigation that broke up the smuggling activities of the Zhong Tao criminal organization before being stationed in the United States. As a result, he became the target of his enemies' hatred. In the U.S., Zhong Tao ordered hisunderling to kidnap Ambassador Han's daughter, Su Yang (played by Julia Hsu), and demanded a ransom of $50 million. Upon hearing the news, the FBI launched a full-scale investigation. Ambassador Han, concerned about the efficiency of the U.S. authorities, insisted on requesting his old partner, Inspector Li (played by Jackie Chan) from Hong Kong, to come and assist. To prevent Li from solving the case first, the FBI assigned Los Angeles Police Department's problematic detective Carter (played by Chris Tucker) as Li's partner. Carter is flashy and high-profile, while Li is skilled, discreet, and cautious. This temporary pairing of East and West partners leads to numerous misunderstandings and humorous situations. However, as crisis after crisis unfolds, the two gradually develop a sense of rapport. Will their rescue mission ultimately succeed? This film won the Best Actress Award at the 1999 Latin Media Arts Awards (Elizabeth Peña) and the Best On-Screen Show at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards.
