In 1993, Lisa Wareck (played by Abigail Spencer) is tormented by her mental state, as her family suffers from a hereditary condition. Both Lisa and her sister Josh (played by Katee Sackhoff) see strange visions, and the ghost of Lisa's deceased mother frequently appears to her, claiming to have something to tell her. To help his wife, Andy (played by Chad Michael Murray) buys a cabin in the woods of Georgia. However, their daughter Heidi (played by Emily Alyn Lind) begins to claim she can see an old man named Gaddy. Josh and Andy independently confirm Heidi's claims, but Lisa, who relies on medication, insists that it is all the child's imagination. From then on, events begin to spiral in an unpredictable direction... This film is based on a true story.
