Bob Wilde (played by Ewan McGregor) is a failed American journalist whose marriage has fallen apart. In despair, he travels to the Middle East, hoping to sneak into Iraq to cover the war and win back his ex-wife's heart. Bob meets Lynn Cassady (played by George Clooney), a private contractor he had heard about during previous interviews, and begs him to help him cross the border. Lynn was once a special forces soldier in the U.S. Army's "Jedi Mind" unit, where he sought "Jedi powers" to defeat enemies through mental willpower under the unique training methods of Vietnam War veteran hippie Bill Diggory (played by Jess Bridges). However, the training philosophy of the "Jedi Mind" unit changed after the arrival of soldier Larry Hopper (played by Kevin Spacey). Bob follows Lynn through a series of comical and absurd incidents in Iraq. Will Lynn's "Jedi powers" turn out to be real?
