Twenty years have passed in the blink of an eye. Leith (Ewan McGregor) has returned to Edinburgh after years abroad. Little does he know that upon his arrival, he stumbles upon his friend Begbie (Ewen Bremner) in a state of despair, attempting suicide. It turns out that Begbie's marriage has failed, and he has relapsed into drug addiction. With Leith's encouragement, Begbie decides to heal his inner wounds through writing. Later, Leith reconnects with his old friend Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), who had once beaten him up due to a past conflict. A plan for revenge slowly takes shape in Leith's mind. At Sick Boy's invitation, Leith decides to partner with him to open a brothel, and the talented designer Begbie also joins in. Meanwhile, Begbie, who had been imprisoned, successfully escapes. After learning the truth about the events of the past, he also decides to find Leith to seek revenge.
