Lord Vader (played by David Prowse) drives the resistance out of their base and dispatches countless probes to search for Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill). The resistance takes refuge on the icy planet of Hoth, where Luke is captured by a snow creature during a patrol mission. After using the "Force" to escape, Luke faints and hears Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Alec Guinness) urging him to go to Dagobah to train under the Jedi Master Yoda. The Galactic Empire launches a massive attack on Hoth. Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford), accompanied by the Wookiee Chewbacca (played by Peter Mayhew), escapes with Princess Leia (played by Carrie Fisher) and the robot C-3PO aboard the Millennium Falcon. They head to Cloud City on Bespin, where Han's old acquaintance, Governor Lando Calrissian (played by Billy Dee Williams), has a temporary hideout. However, they discover that Lando has already struck a deal with Lord Vader, betraying Han and setting a trap to lure Luke into a confrontation. Despite Yoda's warnings, the untrained Luke insists on facing the danger alone, setting the stage for an inevitable fierce battle. This film won the 53rd Academy Award for Best Sound and Special Visual Effects, and was nominated for Best Art Direction - Set Decoration and Best Original Score.
