Eleven-year-old Mia (played by Daniah DeVilliers) moves with her family from London to live in South Africa, settling on a local farm. Having left her familiar hometown, the vast African plains fail to capture Mia's attention; instead, she constantly longs for her past urban life. Since moving here, her youthful face has lost its smiles and gained a cloud of gloom. One day, a new member arrives at the farm—a little lion named Charlie. Charlie's arrival brings joy back to Mia, and each day spent with Charlie is filled with new surprises waiting for Mia to discover. However, as time passes, Charlie grows bigger, and its aggression and danger increase daily. To protect Mia's safety, her family is forced to separate the two friends.
