Biaozi, a single, older male youth from the rural village of Ma Nai Zi Pu in Northeast China, is deeply in love with his childhood sweetheart, Er Ya. In an attempt to support Er Ya's dream of singing, Biaozi tries to secure a performance opportunity at a funeral, but his plans are interrupted by Er Long, who has returned to the village. Er Long has his eye on Er Ya and claims he can take her to become a star. Er Ya is delighted and follows him, leaving Biaozi heartbroken. In a desperate attempt to stop her, Biaozi fails and eventually decides to go to the city to find her. By chance, he ends up as a security guard at a shopping mall, spending his days apprehending thieves and dealing with strange incidents. Eventually, he reunites with Er Ya at a night club. However, during a subsequent jewelry exhibition, the two are caught up in a robbery case...
