This is the fifth collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg since "The Lone Survivor," "Patriots Day," "Deepwater Horizon," and "22 Miles," based on the novel of the same name by Robert B. Parker. After Parker's death, Ace Atkins took over the writing of the series. This is one of the eight mystery novels centered around the male protagonist Spenser. Netflix has reached an agreement with Parker's estate to create a series of films based on the Spenser character. The film will differ from the novel, which tells the story of Spenser transforming from a witty boxer into a private detective in Boston. The movie begins with Spenser's release from prison, where he has had his private detective license revoked. When he uncovers the truth about a shocking murder case and the conspiracy behind it, he is drawn back into Boston's dark criminal underworld. Neil Moritz (director of the "Fast and Furious" series and "Prison Break") is producing, and Sean O'Keefe is writing the screenplay.
