The film is adapted from the essay collection *Fun Antarctic Cook* written by Jun Nishimura, a former chef of the Japanese Antarctic Observation Team, based on his personal experiences. Chef Jun Nishimura (played by Masato Sakai) is sent to the ice-covered Dome Fuji base in Antarctica to serve as the cook for seven research team members, leaving his wife (played by Naomi Nishida) to raise their 8-year-old daughter and newborn son alone. In the harsh, icy environment of Antarctica, food becomes the greatest source of joy for the seven members of the research team: Eisuke Kawamura (Keigo Takara), an ice river assistant; Masahiko Hirabayashi (Masahiro Koohama), a meteorologist; Akira Nishihira (Daishu Kuroda), a communicator; Masashi Fukuda (Kosuke Toyohara), a doctor; Hiroshi Kanda (Anko Kosuke), a meteorologist and team leader; Kenji Ojishiba (Kanji Koshibo), a pilot; and Hideyuki Hiyama (Kensuke Ikeda), an ice river expert. Jun Nishimura goes to great lengths to prepare various delicious dishes, and around the act of eating, the eight lonely men create countless amusing and humorous stories of daily life. The film won the Best Actor Award at the Yokohama International Film Festival (Masato Sakai).
