Xiao Wu (played by Zhai Wenbin), Mu Fan (played by Wang Yi), Liu Sisi (played by He Dujuan), and Ling Fei'er (played by Chai Biyun), students from an art academy, drive to the outskirts and rent a local courtyard house. This ancient and atmospheric courtyard house is rather eerie, and the local residents seem to have their reservations, hesitating to speak. As the night deepens and the courtyard suddenly loses power, the four young people, bored out of their minds, decide to play the forbidden game of the "Pen Spirit." From then on, strange occurrences begin to happen: eerie opera recitations heard in the dead of night, a tree covered in dead cats, and Sisi's terrifying behavior late at night... All these incidents unsettle the young people's nerves. Is the terror coming from the courtyard, the shapeless Pen Spirit, or...?
