After spending 28 years in prison, Wahl (played by Al Pacino) finally returns to the arms of freedom. Long-time friend Dock (played by Christopher Walken) comes to greet him, and both are unable to contain their excitement and joy. Although the world has undergone tremendous changes during Wahl's imprisonment, the friendship between the old friends remains steadfast and enduring. Later, old friend Hirsch (played by Alan Arkin) also joins Wahl and Dock in their celebration. They reminisce about the past while fully enjoying the happiness and indulgence that freedom brings. However, happiness is always fleeting. Dock harbors a secret that weighs heavily on his mind. It turns out that Dock, on behalf of a mob boss, intends to eliminate the recently released Wahl. Looking at Wahl's unguarded face, Dock is unable to make a choice between friendship and duty, and the time he has to complete his mission is running out.
