Director Wang Zhun visited the filming site of renowned actor Gao Li to check on progress, despite their separation. Although Wang Zhun still hoped that Gao Li would quickly confirm her schedule for his new film, Gao Li instead mocked Wang Zhun for the seemingly endless delay in the script. Bearing the pressure of reality, Wang Zhun, accompanied by Ding Hongmin, Bai Jinbo, and Du Chun, traveled to the deep mountains of Hubei to gather inspiration and materials for a dramatic film about the local funeral song "Darkness Transmission." Ding Hongmin was the producer of the film, and she brought along the young male actor Bai Jinbo. Du Chun was a third-year student at the Film Academy and a fan of Wang Zhun. Despite having the local guide Old Luo leading them, the four of them still got lost in the deep mountains. The hardships of traveling and living in the mountains caused significant psychological stress, changing their relationships and gradually blurring the purpose of their journey. The experiences in the forest mirrored the reality of Shanghai's urban life, like a dream, revealing Wang Zhun's inner darkness and confusion. They encountered simple mountain villagers and a determined village woman, Chun Tai, during a storm, and finally heard the elderly song master sing the funeral song "Darkness Transmission" at a funeral. The next morning, Wang Zhun awoke in the valley at dawn, which seemed to be the light he had been seeking all along.
