For Maruge (played by Oliver Litondo), learning is the most joyful thing in life, but at the age of 84, he can no longer relive the happiness of his classroom days. Kenya's free education policy gave Maruge new hope, and he wished to become one of the many students benefiting from it. Maruge's determination and enthusiasm touched teacher Jane (played by Naomie Harris), but failed to sway the school authorities and parents. The idea of a veteran returning to the classroom surrounded by children was met with a unified and loud opposition. Meanwhile, Jane was also punished for supporting Maruge. Seeing the kind person who helped him suffer unfair treatment, an angry Maruge decided not to give in. He was determined to challenge the rigid government.
