The Adams family in Adams Manor is a typical Gothic family. Gomez (played by Raul Julia) and his wife (played by Anjelica Huston) live there year-round, with an atmosphere of gloom and decay permeating the place. The couple is deeply in love, and they have two children who enjoy playing murder games. However, Gomez harbors a scar in his heart. That is, he had a falling out with his brother Festus, who has been missing for 25 years. Gomez still cannot let go of his longing for his brother. The mother, who is determined to seize Adams Manor and its wealth, has a son named Gordon (played by Christopher Lloyd), who looks strikingly similar to Festus. Thus, a conspiracy unfolds as she instigates Gordon to pose as Festus and infiltrate Adams Manor, using Gomez's brotherly affection to gradually take over the estate. Sure enough, Gordon's arrival not only surprises Gomez greatly but also gradually integrates him into the family life, leading Gomez's family into a dangerous quagmire. When they are deprived of their property and fall into misery, the situation takes a dramatic turn.
