Video information

In 1962, during a period of economic hardship on the mainland, a young man from Shantou named Wu Guohao (played by Louis Koo) fled to Hong Kong with a wave of refugees. Refusing to be bullied by the triads, he joined the gang under the boss Fat Bo (played by Chi Wai-shing). After several fierce battles, he was promoted by Fat Bo and established himself within the triad, gradually gaining more power. Feeling threatened, Fat Bo set a trap to have Wu Guohao targeted by a drug lord, which left him with a maimed leg, though it didn't kill him. Fat Bo himself was eventually betrayed and arrested. With the help of Inspector Lei Zonghua, Wu Guohao took over all of Fat Bo's territories, becoming the leader of the four major triad families. He also gained the cooperation of the police by offering them promotions, making the police station his protection for drug trafficking. However, as the year 1973 approached (the year the Independent Commission Against Corruption was established in Hong Kong), and due to his arrogance and abuse of power, he lost the support of those around him, leading to a steady decline in his fortunes.
