In 19th-century England, social standing was considered the primary condition for marriage, and love that transcended class was absolutely frowned upon and not allowed. Our story takes place in such a rigid and conservative environment. Although Emma (voiced by Yumi Tomita) is merely a lowly maid, her noble character and industrious personality make her a capable assistant to Mrs. Kelly (voiced by Michiko Nishiyama), the family's governess. One day, Emma meets her destined lover—William Jones (voiced by Daiei Kawashima), a man who is quiet and reserved but also has a strong sense of independence. Emma and William's instant attraction is met with opposition from many family members, who believe William should marry the more suitable Eleanor (voiced by Sayumi Kobayashi). However, there are also close friends who silently support their free love with their actions. Ultimately, after enduring many trials, their love story finally bears fruit.
