CBS All Access has previously pre-ordered two seasons of the adult-oriented animated series "Star Trek: Lower Decks," which is produced by Mike McMahan, the co-showrunner of "Rick and Morty." The series follows the crew of a support group on a less important starship. The cast includes Jerry O'Connell, Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noel Wells, Eugene Cordero, Fred Tatasciore, Dawnn Lewis, and Gillian Vigman. Jerry O'Connell plays Major Ransom, Tawny Newsome plays the serious Lieutenant Mariner, and Jack Quaid plays Boimler, whose personality is the opposite of Mariner's, leading to frequent conflicts. Noel Wells plays Ensign Tendi, a Star Trek fan who is thrilled to finally be aboard a starship. Eugene Cordero plays Lieutenant Rutherford, a skilled engineer who often fails to solve problems. Fred Tatasciore plays Captain Shaxs, Dawnn Lewis plays Captain Freeman, and Gillian Vigman plays Doctor T'ana. The first season, consisting of 10 episodes, is scheduled to premiere in 2020.
