Ordinary high school student Mami Tomoe (voiced by Hitomi Harada) has a happy family and is a kind, gentle, and caring child in her daily life. The arrival of transfer student Homura Akemi (voiced by Chiwa Saito) disrupts Tomoe's peaceful life. This cool, sickly, and long-haired black-haired girl seems to have some unspoken feelings toward Tomoe. A fateful encounter occurs when Tomoe rescues an injured, strange creature on the street, only to discover that the creature can speak human language. It introduces itself as Kyubey (voiced by Eiemi Kato) and makes a special request: it wants Tomoe to sign a contract to become a magical girl. Magical girls are a unique existence in this world, tasked with battling witches, and as a reward, Kyubey can grant them any single wish. During the battles, Tomoe discovers that the job of a magical girl is not as glamorous as the stories depict, with the constant possibility of sacrifice. As the battles escalate, acrueltytruth related to her own life gradually comes to light.
