Rokuro Okajima was a young employee of Japan's top trading company, Asahi Kogyo, with a good education, a gentle personality, and extensive knowledge. During a mission to transport the company's confidential documents by sea, he was ambushed by members of the Black Lagoon syndicate, whose target was the documents. After stealing the disk containing the documents, the female marksman of Black Lagoon, Revy, abducted Rokuro and planned to demand a ransom from Asahi Kogyo. To cover up their illegal transactions, Asahi Kogyo decided to eliminate both the disk and Rokuro. An executive of the company, Keizan, hired mercenaries to attack Black Lagoon's torpedo boat and hinted over the phone that Rokuro should accept his fate. After realizing that he had been abandoned by the company, Rokuro proposed a plan to the leader of Black Lagoon, Dazai, which successfully helped them escape the crisis. Subsequently, Rokuro changed his name to Rock and joined Black Lagoon, taking on roles such as accountant, actuary, translator, and geographical advisor. Together with Dazai, Revy, and Benny, the three original members of Black Lagoon, they struggled to survive in the darkness of Roanapur. The setting of the story is a fictional Thai coastal city called Roanapur, which is a haven for gangs and mercenaries. The clients of the Black Lagoon syndicate are mainly the various gangs gathered in Roanapur, as well as some occasional customers. Their tasks usually involve transporting various goods on the sea, including helping people escape. The main mode of transportation for Black Lagoon is a military torpedo speedboat, but the torpedo was only fired once in the first episode. They mostly prefer using handguns, machine guns, and other light weapons.
