In the year 1999 AD, an enormous "meteor" of unknown origin crashed onto Earth. Subsequent investigations confirmed that it was actually an alien spacecraft. To repair it and mitigate the environmental damage caused by its crash (while also covering up the incident of the alien ship's fall), some of the world's major powers formed a unified government. The Earth Unified Army then modified the spacecraft into a super-large main battleship, 1,200 meters long, and named it "Macross" (from the German word "macro," meaning "large universe"). Meanwhile, humanity experienced a split between the pro-unification and anti-unification factions, and the modification of Macross continued amidst ongoing conflicts. Ten years later, on the day of Macross's official commissioning ceremony, a large-scale temporal jump reaction was suddenly detected near the Moon's orbit. At that moment, Macross's main cannon fired automatically and hit an alien observation ship that appeared near the Moon! With the situation escalating, it was clear that provoking the aliens was inevitable. The Unified Army had no choice but to engage in battle and launch Macross into space to divert the enemy's attention. A young man named Ichijyo Shiro, by chance, boarded a Unified Army fighter and became entangled in the battle, rescuing a girl named Lin Mingmei. He also became acquainted with a female officer on the ship, Hayase Misas. Thus, the curtain was raised on what would become known as the "First Space War," humanity's conflict against the alien forces. The emotional entanglements among Shiro, Mingmei, and Misas began to intertwine with the course of the war, eventually becoming the catalyst for shaping the future of history...
