To perform the play "Journey to the West" at the freshmen welcome assembly, Doraemon's class held rehearsals for the play. Doraemon (voiced by Noriko Hara) wanted to play Sun Wukong, but was only cast as Villager A. To prove that he was the most like Sun Wukong, Doraemon used a time machine to travel to the Tang Dynasty in China, hoping to meet Sun Wukong, and he really did meet "Sun Wukong." Later, Doraemon wagered Doraemon's (voiced by Shinichi Ogawa) gadgets to prove that Sun Wukong was very much like him. Doraemon and his friends went to the Tang Dynasty but did not see Sun Wukong. Therefore, Doraemon used Doraemon's simulation game machine to pretend to be Sun Wukong, but was eventually exposed. Because the machine was not properly shut down, the monsters from the game escaped from the game machine. The monsters eventually ruled the world, and Doraemon and his friends were also in danger. To restore history and save Xuanzang (voiced by Michiko Namba), Doraemon, Shizuka (voiced by Michiko Namba), Nobita (voiced by Kantarō Kanda), and Takeshi Gondo (voiced by Kazuya Tachibana) pretended to be characters like Sun Wukong to protect Xuanzang and embarked on an adventurous journey... The story is adapted from the novel "Journey to the West."
